Why We Are the Only Shop in Slovakia Licensed by Design Creators
AlexShare
For most customers it is a detail they never notice. For us it is the reason we operate at different prices than the competition. As of April 2026, Printhia is the only shop in Slovakia that sells 3D printed designs with a valid license directly from the models' creators. The competition prints the same shapes without the designer's consent. That is not a minor thing, it is both a legal and a moral problem.
How licensing works for 3D models
3D models that appear online on community platforms have an author. That author decides which license to share their model under. Common free-download licenses such as Creative Commons NC (Non-Commercial) forbid commercial use. You can download the model and print it at home for yourself. You cannot sell it.
Commercial printing requires the explicit consent of the author. Either for a one-time payment, or through a royalty on every unit sold. Without that agreement, it is piracy, even if it just looks like a downloaded file.
How we do it
For every design in our catalog, whether it's Lumira, KUMO, or decorative pieces, we have a contract, a signature, and a real person on the other end. With some foreign designers we paid the license upfront, with others they take a cut of every sale. In both cases, the author gets paid for their work.
Why we do it
Two reasons.
First: it's the right thing to do. Stealing someone else's idea and selling it is the same as stealing a song and releasing it under your own name. Courts rarely deal with it, but that doesn't make it any less wrong.
Second: we want talented designers to keep working with us tomorrow too. Whoever pays once, and fairly, gets offered another design. A pirate seller gets nothing, not even later.
What this means for you as a buyer
When you spend 45 euros, it's not just about a lamp on a shelf. It is also about whether the designer's name earns something somewhere, or gets lost in an anonymous copy.
You can find the entire catalog of licensed designs on our site. Behind every model stands a name that gets paid for it.
TLDR
- As of April 2026, Printhia is the only Slovak shop licensed directly by 3D model creators.
- Common free licenses (CC-NC) forbid commercial sale.
- The competition prints other people's designs without consent, which is piracy.
- We pay either a one-time fee or royalties on every sale.
- A higher price means the money goes to the real designer, not into thin air.
