KUMO vs Lumira: Which Lamp Is Right for You

Alex

Customers ask us this question every other day. KUMO or Lumira? The answer isn't “it depends on taste.” These two lamps solve completely different problems and suit different rooms. Here's everything you need to know to make the right choice.

Design, light, space

KUMO is a cloud shape designed by an Italian designer. Printhia prints it in Presov from PLA, layer by layer, and the result resembles a soft cloud hovering over a table. Light passes through KUMO's walls diffusely, scattering into the room without harsh shadows. It's a lamp for atmosphere, not for reading. When you switch it on in the bedroom in the evening, the room takes on a warm, even glow. No stripes on the wall, no sharp edges. Just calm.

Lumira works the opposite way. Its geometric patterns create light drawings on the walls that shift depending on the viewing angle. Turn the lamp five degrees and the shadows on the ceiling redraw themselves. Where KUMO soothes, Lumira draws attention. It's more of a light object than a classic table lamp. In a minimalist apartment, sitting on a shelf next to two books, it looks like a gallery piece.

Size plays a role too. KUMO in its standard size has a diameter of around 20 cm and works equally well on a nightstand or a desk. Lumira is slimmer, more vertical, taking up less physical space but visually claiming more, since it casts patterns onto its surroundings. If you have a small space and don't want the lamp to dominate, KUMO is the safer choice. If you have an empty shelf that needs character, Lumira will fill it.

Both lamps use a standard E27 socket. We recommend warm white LEDs up to 7 W: a stronger bulb doesn't make sense, since PLA material performs best with mild heat. Cold white light kills the effect in both cases. Warm white around 2700 K is ideal.

Pricing is similar for both. KUMO and Lumira on printhia.sk range from 49 to 79 euros depending on size and color. For that price you get a hand-printed piece, not a mass-produced item from an Asian factory. Each lamp takes several hours to print: KUMO typically 8 to 12 hours, Lumira somewhat less due to the smaller volume of material.

When to choose KUMO: you want soft, diffused light for a bedroom or living room. You like an organic, soft shape. You don't want the lamp to shout, you want it to complement. KUMO is a lamp for people who choose furniture based on whether it fits together, not on whether it grabs attention at first glance.

When to choose Lumira: you want the lamp to be the centerpiece of the room. You have a clean, bright interior and are looking for one striking element. You enjoy the play of light and shadow on the wall. Lumira is for people who head straight for the lighting section in a furniture store.

They do have one thing in common: both are printed on the same printers, in the same workshop in Presov. Same material, same quality control, same wrapping paper. The difference lies in what you expect from a lamp. And that's a question only you can answer.

If you still can't decide, write to us via the contact form. Send a photo of the room and we'll advise you on which one will work better there.
